During bushfire season keep up-to-date with the latest warnings and information about bushfires through the information page relevant to your State below. The websites have information on how to assess your risk, how to plan and prepare, and how to get information about the latest updates and warnings.Apps for smartphones are also available for some states and provide up-to-date information for your location.
As you drive throughout Australia you will see the Fire Danger Rating signs with an indicator pointing to the colour and designation for the current fire danger in that area. Descriptions of the ratings, which are standard throughout Australia, can be found here.
ABC the Australian national broadcaster has information here about their emergency information service that will keep you up-to-date with what's happening in your area.
You will hear about Total Fire Bans - advertised via the radio or on the fire alert apps. In these conditions you cannot light fires - including in fireplaces that may be available in parks. You may not be permitted to use a barbeque, or to use some types of machinery that risk setting off sparks -check the rules here.
