Kiva Loan Update –Micro Financing Gifts

In the Christmas season of 2011 we made a donation to KIVA the micro financing website.  It was a crowd-sourced donation where we asked you for your input into who should get the loan.  On the KIVA website lenders can choose who to lend their donations to and which countries or recipients will benefit.  You can read about the initial loan here.

The initial loan to Elva Luz, a single mother of three children, who runs a stall selling footware in Lima, Peru has long been repaid and for a small fee we have reinvested the initial capital with Lina in Indonesia.  Her business packages and ships books.  She gained a loan to purchase extra packaging materials to enable her to increase her business capacity.  She dreams of having a bookstore one day, and employing others to help her.

Currently the repayments on the loan are slightly behind –we hope that Lina’s business is just a little quiet at the moment and wish her and her family and supporters well.

If you are interested in making a KIVA loan yourself you can follow this link to learn more
